The Hathor table lamp evokes a bas-relief from the Middle Kingdom period (ca. 2061-2010 BC) that once adorned the tomb temple and tomb of King Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II at Deir el-Bahri in western Thebes. A contemporary reimagining of the original relief, now in The Met's collection, celebrates the timeless elegance of Egyptian craftsmanship.
