HISTORIC ORIGINS

This design is inspired by a 7th-century Chinese wine container housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While the Museum's vessel's form echoes the shape of Greco-Roman amphorae, and its animal-head handles draw from Persian and Central Asian traditions, the original is grounded in Chinese craftsmanship, embodying the cosmopolitan spirit of the Tang Dynasty (618–907). This blend of styles is recreated here in a serene, stone-like form.
